Dr Tan repeatedly ignored a number of test results indicating I had severe breathing problems. At my second appointment she told me she didn’t believe my results or I would be struggling to walk (I was deep down but trying to be strong). She dismissed my concerns and told me to return in 6 months. Feeling let down and unsure of myself I did not return and rapidly declined resulting in many losses in my life. 12 months later I went elsewhere and found a brilliant lung specialist who eventually worked out I have a rare genetic disease called Pompe disease. This process took another 12 months on top of the 12 months I lost after my experience with Michelle. It gave the disease 2 years to keep progressing which has caused significant irreparable damage before I could access treatment. In future I hope Dr Tan learns to listen to her patients and seek second opinions rather than ignoring clear results and the concerns of her fellow human being’s. Terrible experience but I’m grateful to be in competent and caring medical hands now.

I had a complex problem which needed some detailed explanation but was not able to explain it . My GP referred me to Dr Tan after a discussion of what to present to her.She kept interrupting and stating protocol. My complex night breathing problem was causing a serious cardiac problem and it took quite a time to get this through. My cardiologists had ordered me to sort it out asap. To her credit she eventually did listen after I firmly insisted and more or less came to the right conclusion. Doctors should have the grace to listen to a patient rather than call them anxious and cut them off and prematurely conclude an inadequate prognosis. If I wasn't prepared and determined to state my case and my history I may have fallen short of what wss needed to be known. I don't doubt her competence but some cases are not cut and dry as many specialist conclude.
