I recently stayed at this hotel over the Christmas period, drawn in by the promise of a good view and a quiet environment, which it indeed offers. The peaceful surroundings are ideal for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle.

Sam, the caretaker, genuinely tried his best to address issues and make guests comfortable, which I deeply appreciated.

However, the stay fell short of expectations for several reasons. First, the photos online are misleading. They only showcase two of the best rooms, which is not representative of the rest of the property. Upon arrival, I was initially assigned room 5, which was not the room I had paid for. I had booked room 11 upstairs, which was more expensive. This mix-up was a bit frustrating.

The most concerning issue was the cleanliness. Unfortunately, we encountered two huge cockroaches in the room 12, which was unacceptable. This ultimately forced us to cut our stay short by one day, on top of poor sleep because of the anxiety. Having such an experience during what was supposed to be a festive and relaxing time was disappointing.

I hope the hotel takes these issues seriously, as it has the potential to be a wonderful place with the right improvements. Until then, I would hesitate to recommend it. Unfortunately, the experience is nowhere near 4.7 stars as per Google average review.

Easy check in. Room was clean . Bed very comfortable. We had a microwave, toaster basic crockery. The only complaint was we didn't have any hot water for 24 hours. I know it could not be helped as these things happen but would have been nice if they offered us a discount or something.

Room was clean and well equipped, location was good. Reception was closed the whole time we were there so can’t really comment on service. Key was in a safe ready for us when we arrived and there was a key box to return it when we left.

If you’re looking for a slice of paradise in New South Wales, look no further than the Anchor Bay Motel in the charming little town of Greenwell Point. This place is an absolute gem! First off, let’s talk about the location—perfection! It’s right across the road from the water (estuary/bay) so you can wake up to stunning views and the sound of the waves in the distance. Talk about a stress reliever!

The rooms? Spotless. I mean, cleaner than a kid’s plate after ice cream. They’ve got everything you need for a comfortable stay, with a cozy vibe that makes you feel right at home. And the staff? Notesble mention to both Sandra the owner, Sam the manager and the super helpful cleaners. They’re legends! Super friendly, helpful, and they always seem genuinely happy to see you—like you’re their favourite cousin who finally came to visit.

If you’re traveling with kids, you’re in luck. There’s a great playground directly across the road where the kidlets can burn off their energy (so you can enjoy some peace and quiet later). There are bbqs also directly across the road for some sausage sangas and tomato sauce yumminess. For the anglers out there, this is fishing heaven! You can cast a line right off the shore, from one of the many docks along the shoreline or hop on a boat and reel in the catch of the day. Fresh fish for dinner? Yes, please!

Greenwell Point itself is a hidden treasure. It’s got that laid-back, small-town charm where time seems to slow down, and the locals make you feel like part of the family. The sunsets over the water are the kind that make you stop mid-sentence just to admire. And did I mention the seafood? This town serves up some of the freshest oysters and fish you’ll ever taste—seriously, it might ruin you for seafood anywhere else.

And while you’re in Greenwell Point, you absolutely must visit the Pelican Rocks Café which is right next door to the Anchor Bay. They serve the yummiest bacon and eggs, BUT their fish and chips are legendary—crispy, golden perfection on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside. Personally I love the Barra! Honestly, it’s so good it might ruin you for fish and chips anywhere else. Pair it with a side of their homemade tartare sauce, and you’ll think you’ve died and gone to seafood heaven. They serve up generous portions too, so bring your appetite (or maybe stretchy pants).

What makes it even better? The café is right across the road from where the town’s most famous residents—the pelicans—like to hang out. These big, quirky birds are a whole vibe, lounging by the water like they own the place (which, let’s be honest, they probably do). Watching them glide across the water or just chilling on the shore is pure entertainment, especially when you’ve got a plate of hot fish and chips in hand. It’s the perfect mix of nature, relaxation, and ridiculously good food.

Whether you’re a foodie, a bird enthusiast, or just someone who appreciates the finer things in life—like pelicans with personality—this little spot in Greenwell Point will leave you grinning from ear to ear. Don’t forget to snap a photo or two; it’s the kind of memory you’ll want to keep forever!
