Being invited to my dear friend of 40 years and her twin sister's 80th Birthday Party was a privilege and a joy to attend. Being a 70 year old pensioner, I decided to treat myself to a motel room in Sylvania, in the Southerland Shire of Sydney, which was close to the party venue. I came across the 'Abcot Inn' and checked out the photos on my computer which look quite nice but I discovered the photo's turned out to be deceptive and misleading. A cost for a single room was $173.69 per night. Despite reading a few reviews I booked and paid for it. BIG MISTAKE!||||Upon my arrival and entering reception I witnessed a gentleman complaining about his room. I thought it was just a one off but I was very wrong, again. ||||The young receptionist greeted me politely and processed my check-in efficiently despite being close to tears and very embarressed. ||||I proceeded to my room and was greeted by a filthy entrance with a very rusted clair and table outside my room. As I stepped into the room I noticed the carpet was lifting and threaded. The room had two queen sized beds, don't know why seeing I had booked a single room. The beds were clean and looked comfortable. The coffee / fridge cupboard was in fact an old pine TV cabinet which had the doors removed with hinges still attached. The surface was badly damaged and dirty as well. The bar fridge contained small containeers of milk which were frozen.||||Next was the very outdated bathroom! The lights around the mirror had rusted, an extractor fan in the shower was also rusted and filthy, a connected powered cord to the extractor fan was covered in dust and spider webs, filthy drain in the shower, toilet seat was totally broken and FELL OFF when the lid was lifted, the sliding door to the bathroom had no fixed slider on the floor so it moved away from the wall when opened and closed, there was mould on the roof and cornices. Every window was filthy, the TV remote had unidentified crap stuck around the little controls. The telephone was NOT working, NO microwave, NO Netflix.||||Situated at the other end of the property was a vending machine near the laundry equiped with cool drinks and snacks which was in a 'Restricted access' area - 'for employees only'. Oh, I may add that when I was going to retire after a wonderful evening out, I went into the bathroom only to be greeted by a large slippery slug which had slithered out of the drain. I also checked the window in the bedroom area which was wide open and remained open even though the air-conditioning was on and whilst I was out. I went to close the window and the fly screen totally fell off!! ||||All of this old, filthy outdated sh*t for $173.69 per night!||||I travel to Canberra every 6 weeks to visit family and at times stay in an Old Hotel. The rooms are Federation style, beautifully furnished and spotless! I'm happy to pay $172.00 per night for it! The Abcot is NO comparison and requires a complete upgrade! The Abcot is a BIG FAIL!||||I must say, quite loudly, to travellers requiring accommodation in The Shire 'DO NOT STAY AT THE ABCOT INN'.||||Needless to say I did NOT sleep well that night and decided to make a review on the Abcot's website PLUS I have sent in a report to Fair Trading.
