Hired a medium capacity storage space for up to two years. Rent was increased four times over that period from $133 to $186 - 40% increase. On the last increase, I checked their rates for new clients which were around the base rate we initially paid. We are now also waiting on the pro-rata refund for the rent we paid in advance for the final month - we have had to escalate to the Self Storage Association of Australasia.

Update: After reporting - it's hidden in their very grey terms and conditions on the contract that they don't refund any amount that is outside a month. So if you do use them make sure you move out on the last day of the month.

Recommendation: Avoid National Storage or if you use them have them sign you into a fixed lease term where they cannot increase rent until the end of the term and don't pay anything in advance or use another provider with a fixed lease.

If I could give these guys zero stars I would. Absolute nightmare to deal with anyone associated with this place. Not only are the local operators horrible, but the head office is WORSE!
TLDR - Stay away from these guys!
Quoted me a storage space that was different dimensions than what I said, then wouldn't give me the correct sized one even though my stuff was sitting on a trailer out the front of their lot. I ask for a refund and was told that imy payment will be returned to me within 5 business days (all the while complaining about the incompetent other staff member who quoted me the storage unit). I call up two weeks later as no refund came through and was told that the refund was never done and that I needed to talk to the refund department in their head office. I ended up talking to the refunds department and they said they would put through a refund. Still no refund came through and I called up again to see what was happening and someone else at the refund department asked if I had got the refund request form (No mention previously of such a form) and I said I hadn't. They complained about how the last person I dealt with was incompetent and sent through the form. I filled it out and returned it. Eventually (8 business days later) I get a refund into my account. Great! But of course these guys didn't refunded me all of my original payment so now I am BACK on the phone to them waiting to talk to someone in their refunds department to get the rest of my money!

Please for your own sake take my advice and stay away! This company doesn't respect its customers and as far as I can tell, doesn't have a single competent brain cell between its entire staff.

Do Not Use this company! The workers are completely clueless, they have no idea what they are doing. They take money straight out of your bank account without your permission & then it takes weeks for them to give it back! They send threatening emails & say they are going to cut your lock as if they have a right to! They randomly send more bills you apparently owe but then when you ask about them, they don’t know what it’s for or why. Seriously a dodgy company, please for your own sake don’t go there!

Every time I’ve tried to pick up my packages that were redirected to the Wollongong location, the offices have been unmanned and closed.

I rented a storage unit but my access code didn’t work. Every reset of the code wouldn’t work. Even the staff couldn’t give me a code that would work. Such a nightmare. No explanation given. I then had to jump through hoops and wait a month for a refund.
