An Absolute Gem for Family Dinners!

The Gary Owen Hotel is hands-down one of the best spots we've found for a family dinner without breaking the bank. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming—perfect for both casual meals and special nights out with the kids.

The food? Absolutely delicious! Generous portions, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. They’ve got something for everyone, from classic pub favorites to a few nice surprises on the menu. And the prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality you get.

The staff were friendly, attentive, and great with the kids—big plus for any parent! It's clear that this place is run with care and pride.

The Garry Owen Hotel is such a welcoming place, especially for families. The staff are friendly, professional, and provide excellent service. The food was superb — fresh, delicious, and great value. Always a pleasure to visit, highly recommend!

Classic Aussie pub in the ‘burbs. Walls in the front bar have lots of sports memorabilia and a nice little more modern dining room out the back. Friendly barman in the front bar and a very nice steak in the bistro. Will be back here regularly because we need to keep these little character gems going.

The Gary Owen for those in the Inner West have historically known it for being a sub par establishment. However under the recent new management they have honestly turned it around! The new menu and food options are fabulous, accomodating staff for whatever sport you wish to watch, great wine list and it’s just a great local spot to go!
Particular shout out to the manager, staff and chef - called ahead to say I was bringing a motley crew of a cealiac, vegan, pescatarian and someone who only wanted a schnitzel and they were nothing but accomodating with ensuring there was no contamination for our cealiac, offered different options and alternatives and made it a very enjoyable evening. Also - they have darts!

A great classic! Wonderfully original. The lovely little bistro was an unsuspected surprise. However, the big, very bright sports screen in the dining room was unpleasant and is unnecessary, in our opinion.

Gr8 steak at gr8 price…. Pepper Sauce is the best. This has new owners …. Their new chef looks scary but I think he’s a Teddy Bear. Just what we needed a quick meal with our grandkids at very reasonable price. In and out within the hour…….
I went there again tonight with my family… $20 Schnitty… better than mother used to cook!!!! Definitely try the vegetables…. The best veggies I’ve ever had with a pub meal…. Well presented and not over cooked… Just perfect!!!

Take the kick all the way down the line, and get amongst the Gary Owen… it’s chill, one of the last pubs in Sydney where you can play darts for free. Old school style, good live music and pleasant and efficient staff. It’s a pub for a quiet one. It’s a pub for reflection and peace.
