What a charming place to stay. We stayed one night on our way to Melbourne and one night on the way back. Both rooms were delightful, warm, comfortable, with everything you could need. The historic inn and the grounds are worth exploring. Two big bonuses for us were destination charging for ev’s and pet friendly. We highly recommend the Fitzroy Inn.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay. Pleasant and peaceful, with helpful, friendly staff.|Sit and watch the sunset from the western verandah, read a book in one of several beautiful sitting rooms, or wander the gardens. Fantastic stay for my family. The apartment was modern, spacious and clean. We loved the dungeon and the breakfast was nice. Early check in was a bonus. Some negatives - the marble shower floor was super slippery and my 2 year old slipped and fell backwards. Thankfully, his reflexes kept his head up otherwise it would’ve been a bad injury. I did look for a shower mat beforehand. Secondly, the dogs at the reception barked as soon as we walked into the reception. It’s quite scary as a mother of 2 young children not knowing whether a dog is friendly or going to bite. It’s also just a not very pleasant welcome for any guest to have barking dogs at their feet! Lastly, all pillows felt the same size and none were flat enough for me so unfortunately slept without one. Overall, I would stay here again and I have already recommended it to someone.

We spent the weekend at the Fitzroy Inn in Mittagong, staying in the charming School Master’s Cottage—and what a find! Although the original cottage was lost to fire, the current version has been beautifully rebuilt to capture all the character and charm of the original. It truly felt like stepping back in time, with all the comforts of today.

The room was incredibly spacious, and you could really see the thought that had gone into recreating the historical feel of the place. The whole property has been lovingly restored by the current owner, and their passion for preserving its heritage shines through.

One of the highlights was the self-guided tour of the Inn, which gave us a deeper appreciation for its fascinating history and the care that’s gone into every detail of the restoration. The staff were warm and welcoming, and a lovely continental breakfast was included each morning.

The grounds are simply stunning—perfect for a morning wander or an afternoon relax. And for fellow animal lovers, you’ll be pleased to know that some rooms are pet-friendly too!

Whether you’re after a peaceful escape, a touch of history, or just a beautiful setting to unwind, I highly recommend a stay at the Fitzroy Inn.

We arrived about 12.30am having just flown from Dubai to Sydney. Had arranged late checkout for the next day. The room was perfect - getting so difficult to get walk in shower/mobility accessible rooms these days. The property is absolutely gorgeous with period appropriate furnishings, comfortable bed, and our breakfast box (when we finally found it as it had not been in the room as arranged) was terrific. Even the wee little dogs were welcoming. Hope to return. The only downside was when sound of trains, but as someone commented "they just add to the rural ambience". Was not a deal breaker. And beautiful gardens.

Absolutely stunning and peaceful location. We really enjoyed the historic walk and there’s so much to see and do, all in the one location. The room was cozy and even though it was freezing outside, they managed to keep the room very warm and cozy.
Our only negatives were, the bar fridge wasn’t cold (maybe we should have double checked the settings) and the hot water was difficult to navigate, even with the Boston how to use it.
We also loved meeting Jack & Jill, such cute doggos.

A beautifully preserved property with an incredible colourful history. The gardens are beautiful to relax in and provide a lot of space for children. The rooms were very spacious and clean and the breakfast was much better/ more than a standard continental. Don't miss out on the historical walking tour. Great location and would come back again.

We enjoyed our stay in the oaklands apartment with our furry baby who loved it.
Everything was clean and tidy.
The only thing I didn’t like was there was not mention of the close proximity of the train line that went all hours of the night.
So bit noisy. Kitchen had no chux or cloth to wipe down the bench and table after eating.
Breakfast was good mix to choose from.
Great grounds for our boy to run around.
