3 mates from Melbourne on a quick trip to visit the War Memorial. The location was convenient, the room excellent. The bar and dining area far exceeded expectations, with $6 drinks during happy hour, meals excellent and delivered quickly, all at basic pub prices. The breakfast package was great value and set us up for the day. To top it all off, the staff were super friendly, had time to chat, and could not have been more helpful. A great few days break.

We recently held our staff meeting at Hotel Diplomat and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. I arrived early, and everything was already set up and ready to go. Within minutes of walking into the function room, our server introduced herself, walked me through the projector and audio setup, and made me feel instantly confident that the night would run smoothly.

The food service was right on time, and every dietary requirement was thoughtfully planned—not just a token option, but well-considered dishes that impressed my team. From start to finish, everything was seamless, professional, and stress-free.

I would recommend Hotel Diplomat in a heartbeat for anyone looking to host a function or event.

Very comfortable, great location, and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. We visited with a very young baby and they worked hard to make the stay as easy for us as possible. I could tell that they took pride in their hospitality!

I booked two rooms, both of which were clean and quiet. However, one of them was located directly in front of the restaurant entrance, and when I requested to change it, the reception declined. That same room was missing basic amenities such as tissues, slippers, a toothbrush, and enough towels. I had also added breakfast to my booking, but the kids’ menu was different, which hadn’t been mentioned during the booking process. On a positive note, the staff were nice and friendly.

From warm friendly greeting, perfectly turn out room, comfy bed, pillow menu, I requested softest pillow and one was delivered to my room. Bar staff again attention to detail in making drinks, my request for vodka lime and soda, the lime was crushed up, been a while since seen that done, makes the difference, food in restaurant amazing what more can I say but I’ll be back. Congratulations to management for such high standards. Thank you to all staff and it was the best hot chocolate ever!

The room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were lovely and the restaurant staff in particular were very considerate in making sure everything was satisfactory. We had dinner in the restaurant two nights and breakfast one morning. |The first night at dinner my husband and myself had the same meals, my steak was cooked perfectly but a bit tough, while my husbands steak was half the size of mine, even though they were on the menu at a certain weight, and his steak was overcooked and very tough, even though we had asked for them both to be medium rare. Our waitress, JLo, was lovely and told the kitchen, she also took photos of the steaks to show her manager and explained to us the next night that the problem was being rectified. Although the meal was not replaced nor were we offered reimbursement. |A slight hiccup at breakfast the next morning but that was fixed straight away and breakfast was lovely. |The bathroom in our room was a bit tired and needs done work but the hotel has an old world charm that is very welcoming. |The carpet in our room was dark so when we checked in there was quite a bit of hair and bits on the floor as if it hadn’t been vacuumed properly, which was a bit off putting. |However, we would stay here again.

Food was good and staff in The Diplomate restaurant were good. The spa bathroom had a significant number of mould especially the shower/spa. The door behind the bathroom had been painted over at the bottom instead of repairing the mould area. The mould has likely occurred because the exhaust did not work so the wall, glass, and other amenities were covered in steam/water after using the shower. We were out each day until 1.30pm to 2pm and housekeeping staff were unavailable for the three booking stays between 8am and 1.30pm were out. Between 2pm and 5pm we indicated guest privacy. Still no housekeeping staff by the time we arrived 8pm - 9pm. This was $1,000 for three nights for a King Spa hotel room but we couldn't use the spa due to the mould and cracking of the tile of bath.. This was supposed to be a 4.5 star hotel, not even close.

For anyone with any sensibility about scent/fragrance at all, this is definitely NOT the hotel for you.
A foul, synthetic fragrance - somewhat like a cheap and nasty aerosol toilet spray - is pumped into ALL common areas through the ventilation system. I was told the hotel actually pays for this disgusting addition!

I for one, do not like my access to plain old oxygen interfered with. As an Aromatherapist of 20+ years' experience, I find it offensive this was done without my permission, without giving me any way to avoid it and in such a heavy handed and tactless manner AND with a toxic, non-natural substance.

Mercifully, the foul stench, which infuses your clothes so you smell it after you have left the hotel, was not pumped into the room ventilation, enabling me to continue with my booking.
But checking in, eating breakfast and moving through the hotel is to be done with your breath held and was a significant disincentive to enjoy the bar and our happy hour drinks. I developed a rash from this toxin and I was only there two nights.

On a positive note, the beds are comfy, there's plenty of hot water and the included breakfast is actually very good.

The hotel is on an island of main roads, so traffic sounds are present, including truck exhaust breaks, even when everything is closed. But we easily walked everywhere and slept well.

We appreciated opening windows, plenty of free secure parking and the wonderful service by Saede the supervisor, who is a really nice guy and a true hospitality professional and did his best to provide us the best room for our needs

I would stay again IF they removed the stench.
