5 Stars - A perfect family day out!

Geelong Waterfront is absolutely fantastic, especially for families with kids! There's something for everyone—from the fun water play area and the scenic train ride to the exciting Ferris wheel. We loved grabbing ice cream from the truck and relaxing at one of the many picnic huts.
The beach area is clean and secluded, perfect for a peaceful dip or just lounging. Kids had a blast in the water pool while we enjoyed coffee from the nearby café. The views are simply stunning, and if you're feeling adventurous, there’s kayaking, boat hire, and even a helicopter ride!
This place has it all—can't wait to go back. Love it!

Wow, this public place is amazing. Every time I have been to the waterfront, it looks beautiful. Whether it's a picnic overlooking the kids swimming or kicking a ball with the kids, the atmosphere is fantastic. Highly recommend this spot for all ages, couples, or solo. You will not be disappointed.

Perfect Family Day at Geelong Waterfront 🌊

We spent a lovely (though chilly!) day at the Geelong Waterfront while holidaying with the kids, and it was absolutely worth it. The area is beautifully maintained, with wide open spaces, fantastic playgrounds, and stunning views over Corio Bay. Everything is well equipped—from clean restrooms and BBQ facilities to plenty of spots to sit and enjoy a coffee while the kids play.

Even with the cooler weather, there was plenty to explore and enjoy. The kids loved the big playground and running along the art-deco boardwalk, and we all appreciated the fresh sea air and relaxing atmosphere.

We’re already looking forward to coming back in summer—from November, the children’s pool by the sea at Eastern Beach reopens, complete with lifeguards, a diving tower, fountains, and shallow wading areas. It’s such a bonus for families and makes Geelong Waterfront even more of a must-visit during warmer months.

Highlights:

Great play areas for kids

Beautiful coastal views and relaxing vibes

Well-kept BBQ and picnic facilities

Easy strolls along the waterfront

Seasonal sea pool for kids reopening from 1 November

Highly recommend this spot for a relaxed family outing—plenty to do, see, and enjoy!

The Good: Geelong Waterfront is an absolute gem! The foreshore walk is stunning, with plenty of interactive sculptures and creative play areas like the recycled water pipes for kids. It’s impressively clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully laid out, making for a relaxing and enjoyable stroll. Big kudos to the local council for creating such a welcoming space for both visitors and non-residents alike!

The Room for Improvement: Parking on the actual boardwalk can be a bit tricky, especially when the high winds decide to make an appearance. A few more sheltered parking options or wind barriers could make things a little easier for those driving in.

Would I Return? Without a doubt! Geelong Waterfront is a fantastic place to stretch the legs, soak in the views, and enjoy a beautifully designed outdoor space.

The Verdict: In conclusion, Geelong Waterfront is a must-visit for anyone exploring the area. Whether you’re there for a peaceful walk, a fun family outing, or just to admire the sculptures, it’s a place that truly shines—just maybe park a little further back on a windy day! 🌊🚶‍♂️✨

Geelong's waterfront has evolved from a bustling 19th-century port, crucial for the wool industry, to a vibrant recreational and cultural hub. Initially, the area consisted of steep cliffs and served as a boundary for Corio Bay, with early developments like public bathing enclosures appearing in the 1840s.

The port played a vital role in shipping wool and other goods, and piers like Cunningham Pier were essential for cargo handling.

Key Historical Points:

Present:
The waterfront is now a central gathering point for locals and tourists, offering a mix of recreational spaces, cultural institutions, and modern amenities.

Significant Features:
Eastern Beach:
A historic swimming area with enclosed sea pools and a diving tower, a popular spot since the 1930s.
Cunningham Pier:

The waterfront is worth a visit, had a very relaxing walk around enjoying all the quirky little things of interest dotted around. Stunning scenery, they have made some great improvements to the foreshore since my last visit 8 years ago.
