I was pleasantly surprised by how much this free zoo had to offer! The grounds were clean and well-maintained, with a great variety of animals to see. It’s clear that the staff cares about the animals and the visitor experience. The enclosures were thoughtfully designed, and there were plenty of signs with interesting facts. This place is perfect for a family outing or a relaxing afternoon walk. Best of all, it’s completely free—though donations are welcome, and I was happy to contribute. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

The zoo is in the grounds of the botanic gardens. They were doing upgrades to the entrance and redoing some of the animal enclosures. A fabulous small zoo where a few of the animals have been rescued and nursed back to health. for example the koala is blinded in 1 eye, there is also a story with the croc and eagle which I don't remember, and if released wouldn't survive. I did feel for the eagle he just looked sad (if there is a way to tell) perched on a tree stump looking like he wanted to just get out. The chimps were a hoot teasing onlookers by swinging into the glass and giving them a fright. The keepers give talks at different time of days eg eagle, croc, meerkat, dingo, chimp, koala talks and also feedings of otters, meerkat, kangaroo, koala and emu. They also have animal encounters but these must be booked and at a cost eg a meerkat encounter cost $100 per person.
We spent over an hour there and loved it. Like many have said before the animals well looked after and in clean enclosures and whats more its free.

Great spot to take the family out. Free entry but donations are encouraged. Very informative zoo staff with scheduled talks ran throughout the day.

A great public facility with free entry, although donations are encouraged (and valued). The site is currently under development, but you still have an opportunity to see meerkats, otters, macaws, chimpanzees, crocodiles, koalas, dingos, kangaroos and a very friendly emu!
The kids will love the opportunity to see the wildlife up close and there are shows during the day at scheduled times where the knowledgeable Rangers present and acrively engage with visitors. A great spot to visit when in Rockhampton, adjacent to the well kept botanic gardens.

This is an absolutely free zoo to walk around. It takes approximately 1 hour. Hours of fun for the whole family. Make sure.tp.wear comfy shoes and take a snack and a drink.

Perfect for a young family. Quiet little zoo, with alot of animals. Not alot of walking. The animals looked well looked after and the enclosure were well maintains.
Quiet location at the edge of town.

Such a beautiful zoo and free to enter! A wide range of animals to see. The meerkats were a crowd favourite - very cute and they definitely weren't shy. The otters were also adorable! The enclosures looked good, though I do hope that the Wedge Tailed Eagle will be given a bigger enclosure to spread his wings. Overall, wonderful place to visit.
