How good is this place now… relaxing, great coffee, good food, and fantastic local beer on tap! A true country town watering hole….off.the main road… staff just so helpful. Will go back for their Friday nights Pizza and chips….and beer! Makes you want to move to Strathbogie (population reportedly 320).

New owners are doing wonders - service was great, quality is amazing, better food than most cafes in metro Melbourne - and I hope they are actually paying themselves as they have ridiculously good prices.

Standouts:
The Mount Wombat smoothie - so good I went back for another one.
The Hawaiian Chicken Burger - perfect combination of flavours, chicken was not overcooked or over breaded and the bun was fresh.

In conclusion, please go and spend your money here, I doubt you will regret it.

No Power, No Breakfast, No Basic Decency

Turned up at 10:50am for breakfast—no power, fair enough, not their fault. We were told the generator would kick in shortly, so we left and rang back at 11:15. The same staff member I spoke with in person told me over the phone the power would be back in “a couple of minutes,” so we made the effort to return in good faith.

By the time we reached the counter at 11:32 (after waiting in a painfully slow-moving line), we were told, “Sorry, it’s past breakfast time.” I politely explained that we’d already been there earlier and had come back based on what they told us. Plus u had called. She said she’d check with the chef, but returned and simply said, “Sorry, no brekky menu—just the lunch menu now.”

Staff were rude, slow, and honestly seemed out of their depth. The vibe was cold, and the team looked overwhelmed. Then we were told all the indoor tables were “reserved,” yet we saw people being seated inside while we were expected to sit outside in the freezing cold. Make it make sense.

In a small-village café, with the only option for food, you’d expect a little kindness or flexibility—especially toward customers making the effort to support your business twice, but Instead, we got a brush-off, no accountability, and zero care for the situation.

We won’t be back. It’s a real shame—I was genuinely looking forward to supporting this café and having breakfast there. Instead, they lost customers who drove there specifically for brekky. They could have easily tried to accommodate us. How is it our fault the staff were slow?

One star, because zero isn’t an option.

Myself and a dear friend headed to Strathbogie township to try the general store out for lunch , we were pleasantly impressed with the service, food and all the goodies on offer to purchase, the homemade cakes were delicious as was the coffee, well worth the drive

Such a great place to spend time eating, having a coffee, grabbing some great local wine, or simply enjoying the company of the owners, staff and ever friendly locals. A real jewel in the Victorian rural landscape.
