Proper Aussie pub with a fantastic front bar & great atmosphere. Be it a Guinness by the fire place in winter or a Coopers in the summer sun - a must visit pub if you’re visiting Adelaide. Have seen many bands here over the years too, with multiple stages around the venue.
Tess is one of the all time great bartenders!

Good place to watch big and small gigs. Decent food and a PLENTY of space. This place has a mix of areas- ranging from the intimate small stage and living room type area to regular front bar to big dining area to concert venue for 700 people. Nice beer selection.

Had a forced overnight layover and searched for local music. Stumbled upon the Wheatus concert at the gov. Venue was easy to get to via Uber and tram. Had very reasonable drink prices with monthly beer specials. Venue is extremely intimate and perfect for this type of performance. Energy was fantastic and will definitely be keen on returning next time I'm in Adelaide.

Great venue for live shows. Offers great opportunities for young bands. Great atmosphere.
I love the Venue stage and have watched many performances here. The space fits so many and the sound is always incredible. Every act to use this space must be so happy with the result!
The balcony room is a good little space too and I've seen a few things there.
The Gibson Bar is where the young bands get to show off their skills. I love everything about this space, except the sound guy, the bigger one with the beard. (late 2024 - early 2025) That dude is the worst and couldn't mix a coffee, let alone sound. Pity for the kids who put their heart and souls into performing, only to find that their instruments had been turned up to feedback point and their mics turned down so you can hardly hear them.

We went to The Gov to see ThunderRoad, with our friend Scott Bradley as the lead singer, singing Bruce Springsteen hits. We started in the front bar for drinks, where there are seats in and outside if you are a smoker. There are lots of things on the walls, so take your time to have a look at them. We then went into the restaurant for dinner, highly recommend to book as it gets very busy( and don't be late as they give your table away after 10 mins). There isn't much room between tables, so people in wheelchairs, would have problems. The girls were friendly, service was quick and at a reasonable price. We then ventured out the back of the hotel where they have live music nearly every day of the week. There were enough seats, in and out for everyone, but everyone stood up when the band started. They had water misters, which was lovely as it was a very hot night. The toilets were clean most of the night, but were quite dirty by the end of the night. This is not the 1st time I have been here and it definitely will not be my last. The Gov does it well.

Best night Saturday night. TUSK you were truly Amazing. We had dinner with you guys prior to the show which was delicious. Plenty to eat, servings were great. Our dinner didn't come out at the same time, friends ordered last got theirs first by the time the rest of us got ours they'd pretty much finished. It was busy so we do understand. The only other issue we had was with a manager I think he was, maybe security I have no idea. Anyway he needs to learn some manners and look at the bigger picture next time. He upset a few people for no good reason. The reserved seating needs to be addressed and dealt with differently next time. Bar staff throughout the night were great, thank you for a memorable night. Look forward to visiting again 🌹🦋🍓
