My father has moderately severe dementia. He spent 4 weeks here for respite. At first, he hated the idea. But by week 3, he was totally at home. It was sad he had to leave. Showkat has been great with the whole process. I was very unsure about the decision. He helped me understand how the fees work and what usually happens when someone enters aged care for the first time. The staff are all very friendly and engaged. That makes a big difference. On top of that, the place feels like a five-star hotel with lovely nooks in the courtyards and lounge areas.

A month ago, I visited my mum’s friend, who is like an auntie to me, at Meadowbank Grove. During that visit, I had the opportunity to speak with the acting General Manager, Kathleen Teaupa, and was impressed by how well she ran the facility. The place was clean, and the residents were active and engaging with one another. However, on my second visit, my experience was not as pleasant. Some residents expressed concerns about the facility’s decline, and the new manager, Cheryl, seems to lack the experience to maintain a positive atmosphere. Respectfully, it feels like Meadowbank Grove is slowly falling apart.

This place is great until you enquire about being a partially supported resident. They only care about bringing in residents who are able to pay a RAD upfront. We were initially lied to about being put into the system on a waiting list, which I discovered when enquiring about vacancies at other Opal nursing homes that Showkat, the Customer Support Manager, told me had vacancies after he checked in his system. They did not have vacancies and we were not in the system.

A few days later, I called back as a general enquiry to check on vacancies and was told they have two spaces available, when I told them who I was and that I recently came through for tour, I was told, “the places have probably been promised to someone else, Showkat will call you back" he never did.

We were then told by Showkat that they only provide care for residents over the age of 73 and that my mother-in-law didn’t meet those guidelines. When I called Opal head office, I was told that the age for care is 65. When I emailed Showkat asking for policies around admission guidelines and clarification on this, my email was ignored.

An utter total lack of professionalism and transparency. I would definitely not recommend Meadowbank Grove if you are looking for caring, thoughtful service in what is already a challenging and emotional time for families.

Opal Healthcare should be disappointed about the way Showkat represents your organisation and lies to people.

If I could rate this place zero stars I would.

What a fantastic place. The staff are so caring and really go the extra mile to make sure they cater for everyone’s individual needs. I’m so grateful for the care they are providing for my mum.
