My husband and I recently had the pleasure of spending 2 1/2 days with Matt Jones, Great Ocean Road Private Luxury Tours, experiencing Phillip Island and the Great Ocean Road. This private tour was outstanding! Matt was so personable and friendly. He took the time to tailor a tour perfect for us. We saw everything from breathtaking coastlines to Koala's in the wild. We had the most amazing time. We are so fortunate to have had this opportunity to tour with Matt. Great Ocean Road Daytrip - Breathtaking, impressive and totally picturesque. Must do!

Wow! Our day started early at 7am with Matt Jones from Great Ocean Road Private Luxury Tours greeting us at our motel. A welcoming and friendly guy who opened the doors and shared his luxury Mercedes Benz with us, equipped with fruit, snacks and ice chilled water for our road trip from Melbourne to the Great Ocean Road, return.

Immediately we felt comfortable with Matt. There is an air of confidence and always a smile on Matt’s face, as his passion and love for the Great Ocean Road oozes with willingness to share his enthusiasm with his clients.

It was about a 90 minute drive from Melbourne to our first stop, Torquay driving past Australia’s iconic surf brand shops. Matt took us to a funky café for a caffeine fix and short walk across the road to the first of many spectacular lookouts. By luck, the 4 December 2023 was an absolutely stunning day to see the coastline. Matt happily took family photos for us all day to capture the memories! We ventured through Jan Juc onto Australia’s home of surfing ‘Bells Beach’. We gazed from the boardwalk lined with low growing vibrant shrubs to the ocean and rust coloured cliffs. In the distance you could see the windy road that would take us to our next destination.

Matt made the drive look easy. Our family were all able to admire the view and no-one missed out. Thankfully, the kids were on their best behaviour, which made the daytrip comfortable and relaxed for everyone. Matt personally catered our tour to explore places of interest for us. We stopped at the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie. Our kids were in heaven with chocolate tasting (also, buying gifts) and the opportunity to watch the chocolates being made.

Short stop at Lorne and then inland to visit Esrkine Falls, Otway National Park. Back to the coastline for more photo opportunities at lookouts and be in total awe of the spectacular coastline as we approached Kennett River and did some koala spotting.

We dined at the Apollo Bay Hotel overlooking the parkland and foreshore. The hotel offered wonderful quick service and we were energized for the afternoon of travelling. More sightings of koalas and the landscape became denser with rainforest and the road quite windy.

We stopped at Port Campbell for a photo opportunity and ice cream, before embarking on the National Park to be blown away by the dramatic cliffs and azure blue ocean of the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, Mutton Bird Island and London Bridge. The place was swarming with visitors from all around the world and flies too! The views are truly breathtaking and you can appreciate the popularity of this beautiful natural wonder and understand why it’s on everyone’s bucket list. Matt took us to some of the less crowded places.

We were exhausted and ready to head home. Matt definitely went above and beyond to ensure we had the best full day of sightseeing the Great Ocean Road and left us wanting to revisit the region. We drove inland back to Melbourne, past farming land and windmill farms. I loved that, at times on the road, silence was comfortable. Other times, Matt would give us the history of places, towns and infrastructure and share general life stories.

We arrived home late, which was fine by us as we had nowhere else to be. Yet, I felt guilty that Matt still had a long drive home to his family after his day at work. But, testament to Matt’s dedication and passion, he was thankful that all of us had the most perfect day. We said our goodbyes with hugs and a promise that we might be back for another tour one day!

The day was filled with fun for our family! A day that we will remain a vivid highlight in our lives. Thank you, Matt, for sharing the time with us. We would thoroughly recommend Matt and Great Ocean Road Private Luxury Tours to friends, family and overseas visitors.

What an incredible day on the Great Ocean Road! My husband and I traveled from the US, and Matt tailored the tour based on our interests. His knowledge and experience of the area made the journey more impactful. We also appreciated he supported local businesses, and we got to meet and talk to these friendly folks. Everything was perfect with regard to our Great Ocean Road trip (Jan 18th 2020). From the outset, with the email communications, through to the trip itself on the 18th, and also subsequent emails post-trip, everything has been first class.

The owner of Great Ocean Road Private Luxury Tours (Matt Jones) picked the three of us up from out hotel in the Melbourne CBD bang on time at 6.30am. It was an early start and a long day, but it needed to be as we were packing so much into our day.

Matt took us to several interesting places along (or near) to the Great Ocean Road, stopping for several photo opportunities along the way, e.g. The Twelve Apostles, London Bridge, Anglesea Golf Course (see the kangaroos roaming freely around the course), and many more places. As we were in a luxury car (as opposed to a large tour bus) we were able to get to several areas where the coaches could not get to, so this was an added bonus for us.

Nothing was too much trouble for Matt, taking photos of and with us, keeping us informed about the area, the history, etc. It was a real pleasure getting to know Matt during our wonderful day.

Can highly recommend this tour. Probably the best day to see the Great Ocean Road.

Tom and I had a 5-star-Plus experience on our 12 Apostles and Great Ocean Road Private Tour with Matt on 5 January, 2024. Matt was able to pick us up at our Cruise Port in Geelong instead of Melbourne for our full day of adventure along the magnificent Great Ocean Road. The car was ultra comfortable for our long day of travel, and the sights Matt took us to were spectacular and breathtaking... exactly what we were looking for! Matt makes his home right along the Great Ocean Road, so his knowledge of the area is spot-on, and he was able to add that personal touch to every place we saw. His kindness and friendliness towards us were greatly appreciated, and this tour was the favorite of our entire stay in Australia and New Zealand!!

We had an amazing time with Matt as our guide! He personalized our tour to meet our needs, and gave us a wonderful tour of wildlife (Kangaroos, Koalas, whale and her calf, echidnas, penguins), beaches, 12 Apostles, seaside towns, and wonderful food! Also, made extra trips to get us coffee and playground time for my two kids. Australia is amazing, but to have a personal guide made it exceptional! We visited places we probably would never have found on our own, and he was able to give us information about each and every place. I highly recommend this group to show you the Great Ocean Road! At the end of our tour my boys said, "We miss Mr. Matt"! It felt like we were parting ways with a friend!
