Yes there might be cheaper tour providers out there - but you can't beat Charlie for professionalism and 'peace of mind' with your booking, as PNG is not the place you want to be caught out not being well prepared.

Charlie and his team are thoughtful and considerate in your preparation - and are literally with you every step of the way during your hike. They are the truly the experts in Kokoda and there is no point going anywhere else. You will see this when the locals meet them along the route, the team are well respected and have a long history of supporting the locals and giving back to the villages you walk through.

My honest opinion is avoid the short 'fast hikes' and spend as much time if you can to stop to see the sights as much as you can. You will also appreciate the shorter days, as this is not an easy hike. Its the difference from an enjoyable hike - or something you regret.

Train as much as you can - and a little more. Its a hard hard trek especially with the extreme weather conditions - but outside of this - its a history lesson that you will never forget. An incredible experience and well worth it.

If you want to step up to the challenge and trek the Kokoda Trail, which I believe all Australians should aspire to, look no further than Adventure Kokoda. The passion the company has for the trail and its rich history is amazing, and they truly take care of their trekkers, as well as their Papua New Guinean guides (affectionately known as the boys). The boys take great care of the trekkers too, and the food along the way is actually so good. The organisation and professionalism is second to none. I would recommend Adventure Kokoda in a heartbeat.
