Crossing the Simpson Dessert was on my bucket list and I had the best experience travelling with Richard May-Steers owner, chef and tour guide of Top End Tours Australia. I would recommend this tour to everyone. I have also travelled through the Kimberley and Kakadu with Richard. His knowledge of Australian country is amazing. Wherever possible we had bush tucker cooked by Richard and 5 star camping. Looking forward to another tour

Richard was an amazing and knowledgeable tour guide and I look forward to another opportunity to travel with him. We were an older group of 7 with differing expectations and Richard was so professional by changing daily routines and itineraies to accommodate us all. The food was amazing. Our campsites were comfortable. We saw so much and covered many kilometers.

Top End Tours
I had an amazing tour with Richie and Top End Tours.

Richie’s knowledge of the outback and Kimberly’s has come from a life time of living in it and being a part of the beautiful nature that is outback Australia. Richie can name every bird, tree, plant, river, channel and water way he sees and if he can’t he’s got the books with that will let you know also Richie’s knowledge and love of indigenous culture and art is a big draw card to, randomly pulling up and talking to and getting advice from the locals is very special.

There’s nothing like a chef cooked meal while camping in the middle of nowhere looking at the billions of stars and having a laugh around the campfire.

For all the hours of driving I was always entertained, Richie’s commentary was very informative and there was always something interesting or amazing to stop and have a look at, it is a none stop adventure.

Top End Tours takes you through some unique and beautiful country with amazing food, comfortable camping equipment and reliable transport.

I would highly recommend Richie as a devoted tour guide running Top End Tours.

Well what can I say but that Richard’s local knowledge and enthusiasm for what he does is only surpassed by the ‘camp food’ that he cooks. Rosella fruit preserve from he had handpicked in WA, baked fish wrapped in paperbark, he even made the string from scratch out of native grass strands to tie it all up.
During the trip we saw some of the bucket list touristy places, billabong tours and I even had the chance to catch my first Barramundi. But the best part was going to the little hidden gems that we had to ourselves. A quite place in nature to sit back, relax and reflect or having a cold beer beer in a natural plunge pool at the top of a waterfall overlooking the flood plains below.
This isn’t a tour with bus loads of other people, this is a small group tour. We laughed, learnt and bonded through out the trip. In fact I’m still friends with people on that tour.
So what are you waiting for? Book the tour, and who knows we may just share a meal, a laugh and become friends on the next tour I’m hoping Richard will do, The Kimberleys!

Richard was highly knowledgeable and entertaining on our trip throughout the Kimberley and northern Australia. His knowledge of the area and connections with First Nations people throughout the various regions makes for a highly enjoyable and entertaining experience, second to none. Coupled with his extensive experience in hospitality and catering, he made the whole trip unforgettable and very comfortable. Highly recommend.

I highly recommend the Kimberley Tour, it was an unbelievable experience that I will never forget. Richard is a very experienced guide and took us to all of the top spots in the Kimberley region. My favourite sites were the Mitchell Plateau and the Ancient Wandjina Paintings. The food was also of high quality as well, especially considering Richard is a qualified chef. Thanks again and I hope to join you on another tour soon.
