We recently had two great nights at Paperbark Retreat and would highly recommend it. Sue and Tony are great hosts and lovely people and look after the guests in all ways. They even took us for a walk by the river which was fantastic. The house is great, rooms very clean and bed very comfortable. The grounds and pool are beautiful and designed for relaxation. The breakfasts are lovely and we ended up having dinner there every night too - nothing like a home cooked meal when you are travelling. Highly recommended.

My colleague and I stayed here for 3 nights last week while working in Cape York. Paperbark Retreat offers very comfortable rooms set in a beautifully maintained garden away from any bustle and hustle with great covered outdoor sitting areas to enjoy the tranquility. There is also a lovely swimming pool and walking tracks through the natural bush land surrounding the retreat.

Rooms were sparkling clean, each room having queen bed, personal shower & toilet, good internet access (100mbps) and Netflix ready to watch.

Tony and Sue were fantastic hosts and I highly recommend the in house home cooked meals (especially the chicken, but everything was good). Tony and Sue are also very familiar with the localities and shared places to see and good places to eat where we were working. They’re also very knowledgeable about fishing in the river.

If you are looking for a quiet and scenic retreat with a personal touch not found in other hotels this is the place.

My husband & I recently enjoyed a wonderful 5-day stay at Paperbark Retreat in Cooktown.
Hosts Tony & Sue could not have been more hospitable and provided a number of great tips on places to explore whilst on our stay.
The accommodation is lovely being only a 10-minute drive from Cooktown township. Comfortable rooms with access to the beautiful homestead & enormous return verandah for a lovely breakfast every morning. If you fancy staying in for the night an evening meal is available for a fee and Sue is a very good cook.
The grounds are beautiful and there is a lovely pool in which to cool off.
Tony is happy to provide a supervised short walk to the nearby Endeavour River adjoining the property where crocodiles may be seen, if you time it right.
We could not have been happier with our stay and hope to return one day. Highly recommend a stay here on a beautiful property with beautiful people.

Tony and Sue have created the most beautiful, relaxing, peaceful I retreat for adults. We stayed two night, for the second time to catch up with a friend who stayed also. The breakfast was so amazing we wanted to eat one of everything, and definitely we’re not hungry for lunch. Dinners were beautiful and Sue is a wonderful cook. The zones created mean you can have a secluded retreat or socialise as much or little as suits you. The rooms were beautifully decorated and Sue’s skills are very noticeable, with everything we could hope for and just the right size. Tony’s building skills are evident, everything is well built and the timber craftsmanship highlights his skills and provide a visually appealing and relaxing environment. Away from roadway meant we didn’t hear a car our entire stay. Tony even fixed hubbys fishing lure and great little spot to throw a line in.
So many more features but we should leave sone nice surprises for guests to discover.

Sue & Toni wrap in their hospitable warmth as soon as you arrive. Attention to detail of your surroundings is obvious. They both have built a beautiful property inside and out. No matter the weather you can chillax under the beautiful cedar verandas. I can certainly recommend having dinners with them both as life’s stories of fishing and travel are amazing.
Thank you for our 3 day break. Sally & Peter
